In Greedfall, based on what you (or your enemies) are wearing you will have armor protections. Below explains how the armor system works.
Armor in GreedFall
Armor protections are designated by blue shields above the health bar in the top left corner. The more shields present, the more protection from physical damage you are granted.
- Enemies armor protections are shown above their health in combat.
- There are a few ways to get around/negate armor protections
- Some impact blunt weapons will shred armor, dealing damage to your enemies and reducing the amount of protections they have
- Magic damage completely ignores armor, dealing the same amount of damage no matter the protection
- You can unlock the ability to wear better armor sets by increasing the Endurance Attribute.
How to Upgrade
Greedfall allows you a weapon and armor upgrade system in order to survive, as you level up in the game. The right upgrades can give you access to specific skills, along with general stat increases, and buffs. Your upgraded armor and weapons in the game will provide you with a new set of skills and stat buffs. These diverse mechanics allow you to temporarily don certain armor pieces to do specific jobs, which adds a fun bit of depth to the game.
But how does Greedfall Upgrades System works?
To upgrade your weapons and armor, you need to have access to the Craftmanship talent. You’ll also need to equip the piece of armor or weapon that you wish to upgrade. You don’t have to spec into these talents if you have an item or armor that grants you the skill.
For crafting the gear upgrades, you’ll have more than one option. You can either go to a workbench or you can simply find a blacksmith to do the work for you. So you need access to a merchant who can craft. You can speak to a blacksmith in most large towns, access the workbench in any of your residences, or visit any of the camps you set up around the world.
You can even go to the camps that you have set up at random places in the game.
In the main inventory screen under the “Crafting” option, you are going to find the three upgrade slots for the item. This means that the ones can be upgraded. You just need to select the item that you want to upgrade.
Each slot allows you to upgrade a specific aspect of the weapon. Under each upgrade slot, you are going to find a different skill that you can upgrade for the weapon. Each ability that you upgrade requires a different level of Craftsmanship talent.
In addition to this, when you proceed to upgrade a weapon or armor, the upgrading process will use up some resources that you have around.
The changes come with stat modifications and a cosmetic change. Certain upgrades will need a certain level of Craftmanship to achieve, and all enhancements use up resources that are in the world. It is a good idea to check out all the available options before committing. Some of them give you a boost in Talents and might open up a Talent you do not have access to yet.
