Here are the frequently asked questions for Arma 3 Contact DLC
FAQ (frequently asked questions).
What is the official release date for Arma 3 Contact?
The Arma 3 Contact expansion is scheduled for release on July 25, 2019.
Where can I buy Arma 3 Contact?
You can buy Arma 3 Contact on the Bohemia Store and Steam. There is also a bundle available that includes the Arma 3 base game and Arma 3 Contact expansion at a discount price. Plus we have a special (physical) limited-edition Arma 3 Contact Collector’s Edition on sale exclusively on the Bohemia Store.
What languages are supported?
Arma 3 Contact supports all 14 Arma 3 languages:
- Spanish (Spain)
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese
Is this official DLC or Creator DLC?
Arma 3 Contact is an official (spin-off) expansion for Arma 3 that is fully developed and published by Bohemia Interactive.
What do you mean by “spin-off expansion”?
We sometimes refer to Arma 3 Contact as a ‘spin-off’ because of it being a light Total Conversion, and its singleplayer campaign takes place in an alternate future/branch of the Armaverse – a ‘what if’ scenario that should be considered as a side-step from the otherwise more conventional Arma military sandbox experience and Arma brand as a whole.
Is this a standalone expansion?
No, you will need to own the Arma 3 base game, and have Arma 3 installed, in order to play Arma 3 Contact.
Do I need the Arma 3 base game to play Arma 3 Contact?
Yes, you need to own the Arma 3 base game and have it installed. If you do not own Arma 3 yet, and want to play Arma 3 Contact, we recommend purchasing the Arma 3 Contact Edition, which includes the Arma 3 base game and the Contact expansion at a much lower price than when both products are bought separately.
I purchased the Arma 3 Supporter’s Edition back in the day. Do I get this expansion for free?
The Arma 3 Contact spin-off expansion is made available for free to owners of the Arma 3 Supporter’s Edition (note: this edition is no longer on sale).
Is this optional DLC?
The Arma 3 Contact expansion is split into two components:
The singleplayer campaign, and all of Contact’s more sci-fi and alien assets, are optional, and you can launch Arma 3 with or without them present in-game.
The data of Contact expansion’s premise-agnostic assets (such as factions, weapons, vehicles, and props – essentially everything that fits in Arma 3’s regular theme and setting) is included in the Arma 3 base game installation. Owners and non-owners of Arma 3 Contact will still be able to play together (except for on the new Livonia terrain), while some restrictions to the use of these assets by non-owners might apply as per the Content Licensing system for default Arma 3 DLC. This also means that a lot of these premium assets can therefore be freely tested in Virtual Arsenal and Garage by non-owners.
Can I use Arma 3 Contact assets in multiplayer?
You can use all of Arma 3 Contact’s premise-agnostic assets in multiplayer, such as the new vehicles, weapons, and a lot of the gear. However, for those who do not own the Contact expansion, some restrictions do apply. To play on the Livonia terrain in multiplayer (and singleplayer) you will need to have ownership of the Contact expansion. Please also note that some of the more thematic Contact assets that make use of custom scripted functionality within the “First Contact” singleplayer campaign, such as the CBRN gear, gas masks, or the blindfold, are purely cosmetic items when used in Arma 3 multiplayer and the wider sandbox.
How do I launch the “First Contact” singleplayer campaign?
After its release on July 25 2019, you can play the “First Contact” singleplayer campaign by opening the Arma 3 Launcher and then hitting the PLAY CONTACT button. Alternatively, you can visit the DLC section in the Arma 3 Launcher, load Arma 3 Contact there, and launch the game by clicking on the regular PLAY button.
Can I use the new terrain and assets in ‘regular’ Arma 3?
Yes! If you would like to play regular Arma 3 but still want to have access to the assets from the Contact expansion (such as the terrain, weapons, and vehicles), you can simply launch Arma 3 without loading Arma 3 Contact as optional DLC in the Arma 3 Launcher.
I’m new to Arma 3. What should I expect, and where do I start?
Arma 3 is a combined arms military game set in a massive military sandbox. The game features massive terrains, a variety of singleplayer and multiplayer content, more than 20 vehicles and 40 weapons, a powerful scenario editor with Steam Workshop integration, and modding support.
People play Arma 3 in many ways, and there’s not one right way to becoming familiar with Arma 3’s core gameplay mechanics. We generally advise most players to play the Bootcamp prologue campaign first, which will help you get a hang of most of the basics. Then, if you want to learn more about specific game mechanics, you might want to go through the in-game Virtual Training courses. You can find all of this and more under the Tutorials button in Arma 3’s in-game main menu.
All in all, the beauty of Arma 3 is that you will keep discovering new things over a longer period of time. So don’t feel rushed to immediately learn everything that Arma 3 has to offer. If you do already want to dive a bit deeper, then be sure to take a look at the in-game Field Manual (available under Tutorials in the Arma 3 main menu), watch our official Community Guide video series (see playlist on YouTube), browse through the many excellent Steam user guides, and take a look at the excellent Getting Started Guide on the /r/arma subreddit.
Can I run Arma 3?
Be sure to check out the system requirements on this page or on the Arma 3 Contact Steam and Bohemia Store page. Since Arma 3 has been on the market for over 5 years, it is very likely that at least most gaming desktops and laptops built or bought over the course of those years will be able to run the game well at standard video settings or higher.
I’m experiencing technical issues. What should I do?
Solutions to some of the most common issues are listed on our Support page. In addition, here are some explanations or recommendations in case you experience the following:
- Low framerate
Your performance depends on a number of variables, such as your hardware configuration, your in-game video settings, whether you’re playing singleplayer or multiplayer (and in case of the latter, what multiplayer server you’re playing on), and if you’re running Arma 3 with mods. Our recommendation is to first try to configure your in-game video options to match your hardware setup (use auto-detect as a basis – and especially look out for your Visibility and Anti-Aliasing settings). It’s also recommended to install the latest graphics hardware drivers for your graphics card(s). Should you not be using SSD storage devices, consider defragmenting your drive(s). Finally, use the Steam client to verify the game data integrity automatically.
- “Arma 3 has quit in an unusual manner”
Please take a look at this page with a description of common error codes and proposed solutions.
